Public joint-stock company Volgogradneftegeophysica (VNG, a subsidiary of Rosgeo) has successfully completed the field stage of seismic explorations in the south of the Volgograd Region under the project of follow-up exploration in the south part of Gremyachinsk deposit – one of the largest deposits in Russia, with the confirmed reserves of potash salt (sylvinite ores) to the amount of 1.6 bln tons with potassium chloride concentration of 39.8%.

Under the contract with Eurochem-Volgakaliy LLC (a member of the Group Mineral-Chemical Company EuroChem), which develops and further explores the Gremyachinsky deposit, the VNG's experts performed the 3D CDP seismic exploration in the area of 48.4 km2 including about 30% of the extent area with approved reserves. The obtained data are currently processed and interpreted.

"Our company has considerable experience in the geophysical well explorations and 2D seismic surveys during the prospect evaluation and explorations for potash-magnesium salts in the subsoil of the Volgograd and Saratov Regions. We have cooperated with Eurochem-Volgakaliy since its foundation in 2006 and are ready to further determine the structure of productive sylvinite ore formations at the highest technical level," — Vladimir Odoleyev, Managing Director of VNG.
"The uniqueness of 3D seismic explorations made at the Gremyachinsk deposit was the high-density of the survey in terms of signal producing and receiving points, which exceeded 400 points per square kilometer. Perhaps, it was the 3D CDP highest-density survey in Russia so far," — Vladimir Odoleyev. "Now, our main concern is to make maximum use of the acquired data during the processing, interpretation and inversion to meet the stated objectives. To this end, our experts have all the necessary competence."

Throughout the years, VNG has been engaged in the geophysical exploration of production wells for Eurochem-Volgakaliy. In 2019, these works were performed in 6 wells on the industrial site of the Gremyachinsk Mining and Processing Plant.

Background:

The Gremyachinsk potash salt deposit was revealed in 1979-82. In 2005, at the end of the auction, the company of EuroChem Group received a license for geological survey, exploration and development of deposit. After the mineral exploration, the capacity of the productive potash salt (sylvinite) deposit was from 2.3 to 21.5 m. To implement the project in the Kotelnikovsky District of the Volgograd Region, Eurochem-Volgakaliy completed the construction of the Gremyachinsk Mining and Processing Plant with design capacity of 2.3 mln tons/year, 95% KCL. In 2016, a potash salt layer of about 4.0 m was discovered using a main shaft within a depth range of 1113-1117 m.

Mineral Chemical Company EuroChem controls the Russian assets of EuroChem Group AG, one of the leading manufacturers of nitrogen, phosphate and potassium fertilizers in the world. The Company activities include mineral extractions, fertilizers production, logistics, and distribution.

Public joint-stock company Volgogradneftegeophysica begins its history from 1950. Now the Company is specialized in seismic exploration and oilfield geophysics. Over the years the company processed more than 200 thous. line km of 2D CDPM profiles, about 8000 sq. km of 3D CDPM profiles in the south of Russia. It performed the works abroad as well – India, Algeria, Iran and Uzbekistan. According to the seismic survey data, more than 350 structures are recommended to drill, and more than 50 raw hydrocarbon deposits with total reserves of more than 90 mln conventional tons have been already discovered. The company performed comprehensive geophysical surveys in ultra-deep wells with a total depth of 6-7 thous. m, within the Peri-Caspian Depression.
