RosGeo is conducting the exploratory drilling to provide with drinking water to the village in Arkhangelsk region

The purpose of the project is to identify the resources of drinking quality fresh underground water in the volume of 3000 m3/day in C1 category. The works are performed in the framework of a public contract in accordance with the program “Reproduction and use of natural resources”. “There are some long-standing drinking water problems in the region, the River Ustya is contaminated with industrial effluents, and the current water intake of the Oktyabrskiy village is located in the immediate vicinity to the border of distribution of brackish groundwater, so its operation involves the deterioration of the produced water quality, — said Constantine Firstov, the head of North-West PGA. — Considering the complex hydro-chemical conditions of the territory, our objective is to find a reliable supply of qualitative drinking water and resolve the problems of the district center.” The project works started in December 2019. Insofar, the specialists of RosGeo have completed the geophysical surveys by vertical electric sounding method at 280 points along the profiles with a total length of more than 26 linear kilometers. The analysis of the data obtained by the geophysicists enabled to explore the lithological composition and thickness of the quaternary and bed rocks, elaborate the geoelectrical cross-sections, perform the geological interpretation and correct the intended site locations of the exploration wells. The work area is strongly swamped and specified with a low passability for the drilling machinery, which complicates the work of the hydro-geologists. According to the results of exploratory drilling, the most promising areas will be identified for the second stage of the work — survey and qualitative and quantitative assessment of the groundwater in the aquifers. The completion of these works is expected in 2021.
