Rosgeo has completed the marine and land geophysical surveys under the Contract made in March 2019 with the national oil and gas field development company of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Tatweer Petroleum – Bahrain Field Development Company W.L.L. The main objective of the surveys was to specify parameters of the country's largest deposit with potential resources of about 70 billion barrels of oil and up to 20 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, the discovery of which was announced by the Higher Committee for Natural Resources and Economic Security of Bahrain in 2018.
"The successful performance of the contract in Bahrain has once again demonstrated that Rosgeo has the necessary competence for seismic surveys in the transit zones and on the deep marine shelf", —Sergey Gorkov, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Rosgeo. "In accordance with our long-term strategy we are more engaged in the expansion of the portfolio of international projects, including in the Middle East countries."
Yuzhmorgeologiya JSC and Kaliningradgeophysica JSC (subsidiaries of Rosgeo) have performed the seismic, gravity-magnetic and geochemical surveys throughout the whole territorial waters of the Kingdom of Bahrain, including the deep marine shelf and transit shallow water zone, as well as the adjacent land surface. Yuzhmorgeologiya performed the 2D CDPM and refracted wave-based marine seismic surveys with a total length of profiles of about 1400 line km, as well as gravity and magnetic surveys covering 1677 line km. Kaliningradgeophysica performed the 2D land seismic surveys covering 92 line km.
The Professor Logachev research vessel of Polar Marine Geosurvey Expedition JSC (PMGE, a subsidiary of Rosgeo) was engaged in the works on the shelf. It was a basic vessel for the expedition and used as a signal recorder. There were additional vessels as well – deep-submergence support ship, subsea equipment handling vessel, and navigator vessel identifying the position of ocean-bottom cable.
Russia delivered specialized small vessels for seismic surveys in the transit zone of Bahrain: a vessel producing a signal in the ultimate shallow area, and two subsea equipment handling vessels. The experts of Kaliningradgeophysica and Yuzhmorgeologiya jointly performed the so-called seamless survey at the interface of land and sea in accordance with the best international standards.
Background:
In September 2016, during the visit by the King of Bahrain to Russia, a Memorandum of Understanding was made between Rosgeo and Nogaholding, Oil and Gas Holding Company of the Kingdom of Bahrain, for mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of oil and gas and geological survey services.
In line with the Customer's requirements – Tatweer Petroleum – Bahrain Field Development Company W.L.L. (a member of Nogaholding), a project technical specification was prepared and agreed at the end of 2018. As a result of tender procedures, the Tender Committee of the Kingdom of Bahrain selected the technical and commercial offer of Rosgeo as the best deal possible. The Contract between Tatweer Petroleum and Rosgeo was signed in March 2019.
